| May 18/31 1918, Ekaterinburg Dear Mr Dumontais, I was very surprised by your letter and it's a pleasure to accept your invitation. What a great project! It will bring joy during those hard days, even if I know God is protecting us. It's difficult to write about anything cheerful, because there's all too little cheerfulness here. On the other hand, God doesn't abandon us. The sun shines, the birds sing, and this morning we heard the bells sounding matins. More, on May 23, my siblings arrived from Tobolsk. This event brought us so much great joy, we were finally reunited. I'll probably answer you, most of the time, from the bedroom I share with Olga, Tatiana and Anastasia. I hope they won't look at the letters I'll receive ! If someone in the future has news from our dear friends, please share them with me, I'll be really thankful. May God bless you, Maria Nicolaievna |
