Dear Arthur,
You travelled so much, please let me ask you two questions.
Firstly, how did you learn english and all the languages you needed in your trips? Of course, I don't speak about Latin...
Secondly, how did the natives from your visited countries glance at
you? You were a young typically european man and tourism didn't really
exist at this time. By this way, what was the relationship with them?
Many thanks for giving a little bit of historical feeling to me.
Yours sincerely,
LAP
Hello,
I learned English by myself, living for several months in London and teaching French for a living.
I also learned German by myself, with a dictionnary, before I went to Stuttgart.
As a trader, I had no particular problem with native people of the
countries I visited. I didn't act as a tourist bringing my own culture
with me. I was wearing their clothes, learning their languages and
studying their religion. The better way to trade is to merge in the
population.
Yours faithfully,
Rimbaud
