Karl Marx

      September 1878,

Miss Lady Stardust,

I write this letter from my peaceful English residence. I am pleased to announce you that I accept your offer of participation to the historical forum DIALOGUS. I must however insist on the fact that my wife Jenny von Westphalen, my three daughters, and my excellent friend Mister Friedrich Engels will help me from time to time with this correspondence. I am extremely busy working on my Political Economy and my health is still quite fragile.

It is an unavoidable historical fact that the Anglo-Saxon world will be of seminal importance in the next historical development. In that blatant perspective, I see as a genuine opportunity of dialogue to exchange with people of your time and say on my works in political economy and philosophy. English and Anglo-Americans are compulsive conservatives. Even their trade union militants are disappointing. But, let me entertain an idealist lunacy for five minutes. Let me dream around the idea that if I talk to them, they may change their views on this post-industrial valley of tears, which they contributed so extensively to create.

And since I will not turn to Doctor Faust just because I talk to a couple of red necks from the future, may that new dream turn to a reality.

Respectfully yours,

Karl Marx
