Dearest Marie-Antoinette, In the palace of Versailles, what was your daily life like? I want to know everything! Warmest Regards, Caroline Dearest Caroline, Life in Versailles was not what I liked most. I really enjoyed my days when I was in Trianon. I had duties to fulfill in Versailles whereas in Trianon I was free to live as I wanted. But I did have to be in Versailles from time to time. My days were all alike, but different at the same time. Some events were customary, like «le Lever», the ceremony of my waking up, or the Mass. However, depending on the season and the circumstances, the rest could vary. I had letters to write, time to spend with my children and with friends. I was also giving what we call «Audiences», where different people would meet with me to obtain favors for them or their families. There was also hunting and horseback riding, walks, games and in the evening there were sometimes «bals», dances, etc. My days were usually busy. Please write again if you want, dearest Caroline, I feel so lonely and isolated here in La Conciergerie… Marie-Antoinette |
