My Dear Queen,
First, I apoligize for my English letter as I have not
yet learned the wonderful language of France.
Second, I must simply ask you
this: are you beautiful? I know this seems rather silly but I cannot help but
wonder. It is said you were the most beautiful out of your siblings. Is it true?
I am also rather curious about your children. Do they look like you or do
they resemble the King?
Please write back soon because I'm dying to
know!
Yours truly,
Elizabeth
Dearest Elizabeth,
You do not have to apologize, I assure you. It is my
pleasure to answer your letter.
You are asking me if I am beautiful?
It is a very hard question, as I have to judge my own beauty. Let’s just say
that I am not ugly. I find myself having some kind of beauty, but I do not
think I can really tell you more than that. You would have to ask the ones who
know me, perhaps it would be easier for them to answer you. I think my sister
Marie-Caroline has alot more beauty than myself.
My daughter
Marie-Thérèse used to look more like me than her father. But I find that with
age, she looks more and more like her father. I wouldn’t be able to tell you if
my son looks more like me or more like his father. He is still very young. I
miss them so much!
I hope this answers your question and please, don’t
hesitate to write again, dear Elizabeth.
Marie-Antoinette
My Dear Queen,
It was such a pleasure to read your response. I am glad
you took the time to answer my letter. I have another question for you. I
recently visited France and I must say it is a beautiful country. Do you agree?
What is your favorite place in France?
Yours truly,
Elizabeth
Dearest Elizabeth,
Did you know that my sister, held at the Temple while
I am writing this letter, is also called Élisabeth? I wish nothing bad happened
to her since they bring my here at the Conciergerie!
I do agree with you
that France is a beautiful country, although I did not have the chance to visit
alot of it since I arrived here as the Dauphine. But what I saw, when I was
coming here for my wedding, was indeed beautiful. As the rest of the small area
I lived in.
May I ask you what is your favorite place in
France?
Marie-Antoinette
