Louis XVI

      Dear Sir,

Cléry has just given to me your invitation to join Dialogus, which is for me a great pleasure. This process will be a new link with my People that I still love so much. I hear so little about my subjects since last August when I was imprisoned in the Temple. Since the beginning of my trial paper and quills were given back to me,which will ease my correspondence with Dialogus. I will endeavour to answer as exactly as possible to the questions you will ask to me because I have an easy conscience and I will never fear that my conduct be examinated. However,as I do not want to put Cléryís life at risk my answers are liable to be delayed. I need to find the right time when they can safely be conveyed to you.

Louis
