Things for the colony |
||
|
Your Majesty, You were instrumental in bringing such cultural developments to France as mirrors, umbrellas, street lights, cafes, hairdressers and designer shoes. What, if any, importance do you see of these things for the colonies? Are they crucial for an outpost, or rather, are they a series of luxuries more suited to the continent? Sincerely, Tamar Alexia Fleishman, USA Madame, The colonies are developping as we speak. There are not much people living there that are rich enough to buy the things you are writing to me about. Therefore I would say they are more suited for the continent. But, that said, the colonies have some importance for the Finances of the kingdom. They have some of the primary materials that the kingdom needs. Take the furs, for example, the beaver furs. The animals are hunted in the colonies and the furs are sent to France to be transformed in hats. Then these hats can be sold in France, mostly, but also in the colonies. But for the rest, it really depends on how many rich enough people are living in the colonies and their needs. Don’t hesitate to write again, it is always a pleasure to answer questions of people from your time. Louis |
