      Ludwig,

What is your favorite recording of your late string quartets?

Ludwig Van Beethoven

I can only answer belatedly and with appologies, in the following manner as I understand your question, for my mind is solely absorbed in a large composition, and daily I am confronted and tormented by my friends who flee because of my temper. It must be understood that I cannot turn my mind to anything else. My daily researches in latin which are necessary take me to the Prince's library and are my only outings and I must even quarrel because my food is not eaten.

My last quartets were written quite some time ago now, and some as you may know for the Russian ambassador His Excellency count Rasumovsky, who took the second violin and who employed in his household my dear, good Ignaz Schuppanzigh, hahaha, my very fat friend, but supreme violinist.
